History Of Costumes By Betty

I had loved to sew all my life. In 1966 I joined a clown club and I made my first clown suit. Then I was asked to make them for some of the members of the club. With my background and my love for sewing this was just what I needed. We were seen around town at various parades and activities.

Soon clowns from other clubs asked about our costumes. They wanted me to sew for them a couple years later the International Shrine Clown Association held their MidWinter Convention at the same time as our Winter Carnival. Clowns across the country attended and requests for costumes started coming in from them. At that time 3 clowns from Texas approached me and asked if I could attend their local convention as a dealer. That was the beginning of my travels as a costume dealer.

I have attended conventions in nearly all of the 50 states. I have dealt in Nova Scotia, England, Puerto Rico, Japan, and many other places. Costumes by Betty has helped me experience my passions of sewing, creativity, interacting with people, and being able to help others discover their passions.

Behind the Scenes of Costumes By Betty...

Welcome Granddaughter Sarah to the company!
Sarah has worked with me since she was a little girl seeing as I was her daycare provider as she grew up.

MS. BETTY "PEEWEE" CASH
She learned to sew by age 5 making little pillows for her dolls. She later graduated to big pillows for her bed. She has a basic knowledge for garment construction and a good eye for design.
The past three summers she has helped me run the business and understands the different aspects very well. She has also had clown experience participating in a Girl Scout clown club as well as having me as her Grandmother. She is a white face clown known as ‘Pokie’. She’s been surrounded by clowns her entire life!

MS. SARAH "POKIE" CASH
Currently, she is in her senior year at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and will be graduating in spring of 2008 with a double major in entrepreneurship and leadership management. I’m very excited for her to be joining Costumes by Betty and please welcome her as you have welcomed me within our clown world!

Bib O'Alls
racently had Betty make me short Bibs for those hot summer days. Tried them at an indoor gig and they were awsome. High socks and short bibs, great. The look is great and they are cool in climate. Thanks Betty for another awsome job and a great idea. Try them, you'll like them.

Lite Lined Clown Dress
A really great dress for thsoe hot summer months. This is also a great costume for the beginner clown that just can't afford the more expensive outfits on the market. I am a seasoned clown and still buy these dresses for the value. PS: They wash well too, so not so much ironing anymore!

I purchased two of these dresses over a year ago and they are still looking new and fresh. Everyone I see raves about the bright colors and coordinated pantaloons. I love my costumes, because they are wash and wear. No more ironing! I plan to buy two more for this summer.
